SCC Patrol - Hurricane Information

Sun City Center is NOT in an evacuation zone. Residents are encouraged to shelter in their own home unless they have special medical needs. Check your house, check your neighbors, and spread out in your vicinity before reporting for duty.

The primary contact person for the Security Patrol is:

Mike Albanese - Chief At 813-642-2020 or at home 813-634-5512

The following Security Patrol resources will be available for use by members of the Sun City Center Emergency Resources Group:

4 Hand-held megaphones (batteries included)

3 Hand-held radios

5 cone flashlights (for traffic control)

Note: These plans are written for the use of members and may be modified by the leadership without notice at any time.

The following action will take place at the Security Patrol Office if a hurricane is in the vicinity:

·        A dispatcher will be on duty.

·        The Chief, Deputy Chief and crew will be in the building. The captain or designated deputy of the day will be on call.

·         One Security Car will be available for emergencies unless wind gusts reach 35

mph. A member of the Security Patrol must drive the car.

·        Security Patrol cars will be parked on the sidewalk behind the Atrium Building. This will protect the lights on the cars. CA has granted permission to park the cars in this area. (Lyn Reitz)

Roads must be safe (no water or heavy debris) before a Security car leaves the safety area. Drivers need to be extremely cautious before passing through high standing  water. In the trunk of our cars are: Traffic Cones ,Flashlights, Fire extinguishers .Vests, warning triangles, rain suits.

Note: In the event of power outage, an emergency generator will provide limited power for the Security Patrol Office. We will serve as a telephone answering service (if the building is operational).

****************************************

In preparation for the upcoming hurricane season, these are the steps to be followed:

1. Turn on the weather radio.

2.Make sure all cars are filled with gasoline prior to storm watch.

3.The generator will be serviced and the tank will be filled prior to hurricane season.

4.No drivers will be dispatched if wind gusts reach 35 miles an hour or the roads look impassable with moving water.

(continued from prior column)

5.The Chief of Patrol and designated assistants will take over the office operation, if the building is secure and standing.

6.Captains of the day are responsible for calling their team members.

7.If the office is open, and the generator is functioning, we will accept medicine that needs refrigeration. However, there is no guarantee that we will have power for the duration of the storm. Therefore, people storing medicine in the refrigerator will take full responsibility for their meds. (No narcotics)

8.Monitor the area around the building before the storm. Dispose of any debris or other items that could possibly damage the doors or windows.

9.Obtain information from the Disaster Center about the availability of sand bags and portable water. Inquire as to where sand bags and water can be picked up.
We will provide the
telephone number of the Disaster Center to residents that inquire.

10.Be sure we have all the information about the designated centers for people with health problems who need to be evacuated early.

11.Make sure all flashlights in cars and in office are in working condition.
